Movies filmed in Savannah

As mentioned yesterday, Savannah has played host for many movies over the years. You can find a pretty comprehensive list on IMDb if you are interested. Of course, Forrest Gump is the biggie that I’m sure everyone is familiar with. When you come to Savannah they have locations highlighted on most tours that point out where certain scenes were filmed from that movie.

Here are a few other movies filmed in and around Savannah (in part or in whole):

  • The Longest Yard, 1974
  • Roots, 1977
  • Glory, 1989
  • Forrest Gump, 1994
  • Camilla, 1994
  • Now and Then, 1995
  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, 1997
  • The General’s Daughter, 1999
  • The Legend of Bagger Vance, 2000
  • The Gift, 2000
  • Something to Talk About, 1995

There are several less than awesome films on that list — and even more less-than-awesome on the complete list (Swamp Thing, ahem!) So, now that you know these absolutely stunning bits of information 😉 you will be able to locate some of the famous places when you come to visit us.

For instance, check out the Flickr Stream for photos of The Six Pence Pub from “Something to Talk About.” (Apparently Julia Roberts does a scene there. Although I’ve never seen the movie to verify, I trust the Savannah tourism department wouldn’t lie about that.)

Recognize that?
Are there any ‘must see’ movie places on your list when you come to Savannah? If so, make a list and we’ll be sure to swing by for photo ops when you head down our way.
